Health and Safety Workshop delivered by Conservation Volunteers Australia

Health and Safety Workshop:

Bunbury on Wednesday 23nd of May and the other in Margaret River, at the Augusta Margaret River Shire on Thursday 24rd of May.

The Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) ‘In Safe Hands’ workshop is a comprehensive workshop covering all aspects of health and safety and will be presented by Mr Graeme Hickingbotham, National Training Manager at CVA. The ‘In Safe Hands’ training program is a nationally accredited program which is suitable for groups undertaking on ground work, particularly in practical conservation. This workshop will be beneficial for both volunteer community groups as well as organisations who work with volunteer groups.

Topics to be covered include:
Occupational Health and Safety policy
Safety Management and Guidance notes
Risk assessment information and format
Emergency response processes
Induction for volunteers
Set of proforma documents to address all aspects at the worksite

A comprehensive training manual will be made available for each community group attending providing them with a guide to refer back to as well as all essential documentation and forms covered in the workshop. A CD of all material is also supplied as part of the training manual.

Location:

Two workshops will be run, one in Bunbury on Wednesday 23nd of May and the other in Margaret River, at the Augusta Margaret River Shire on Thursday 24rd of May. The venue in Bunbury will be confirmed closer to the date depending on numbers.

Time:

The workshops will run from 9am-12:30pm, with morning tea and tea/coffee provided.

Hello! The Cape to Cape Volunteer Team meets this Thursday at 9 am at the Margaret River Resource Centre. We are going to help out the Friends of the Cape to Cape Track doing some pruning north of Gracetown through to 4WD track at Veryuca Brook.

Where and when: Thursdays & Fridays at the Geographe Community Landcare Nursery Queen Elizabeth Ave, Busselton

Start: Thursday 26th April 2012

Why?

Learning about growing plants from seeds and cuttings, potting and caring for plants
Recognising plants in the bush & seed collection
Meeting new and interesting people
Understanding how conservation helps the environment
Learning how to work safely and in a team
Weed, pest and disease recognition

To participate in this program you must be 16 years or older and have your own transport. Participation in this program may lead to employment, a traineeship or further training in the field of horticulture. The program is facilitated by experienced Horticulturalists, Ann Bentley and Rod Cary (0429 644 885)

To enroll in this program please complete an enrolment form available from the Geographe Community Landcare Nursery or from the Jobs South West busselton office on Albert Street, Busselton WA.
