CAPES VOLUNTEER TEAM

The Capes Volunteer Team will  not be operating its usual Thursday weekly workdays for the immediate future.

Instead CCG has a number of upcoming volunteering opportunities which will be regularly posted here for interested volunteers.

We hope you will all join us for these exciting activities and keep the volunteering enthusiasm alive in the Capes region.

Upcoming  Volunteering Opportunities

  • Hairy Marron fishdowns at Cane Break and Long Pools on the upper Margaret River in April, May and June.  Field work will be taking place in April, May and June on the following dates:

Tue 21st & Wed 22nd April
Tue 28th & Wed 29th April
Tue 19th & Wed 20th May
Tue 26th & Wed 27th May
Tue 15th & Wed 16th June
Tue 23rd & Wed 24th June

For those who haven’t already been involved, the aim is to reduce the population of smooth marron in the upper pools of the Margaret River through the use of fish-downs. We trap, ID and tag all marron caught in the pools; hairy marron are returned to the pools whilst smooth marron are removed and re-homed downstream. The average field day will  be from  9am – 3pm. Training, transport and lunch are all provided. Please contact Lyndsey on 9757 2202 or lyndsey.ccg@westnet.com.au if your are interested or require further information.

  • Rehabilitation activities planting, brushing and weeding at Redgate Beach in May.
  • Planting of native seedlings on the coastal dunes at Prevelley/Gnarabup in June.
  • Margaret River Bioblitz 2015 in springtime – school and community surveying of flora and fauna in the A Class Reserve downstream of the Bussel Highway bridge.
  • Weeding of weeds of national significance at various sites in springtime.

More information will be posted on these activities as they come available.
